MARSHALL 10 hp PORTABLE STEAM ENGINE
CHARLEVILLE HISTORIC HOUSE

The Marshall 10.hp Portable Steam Engine No.52608 was built at the Britannia Works, Gainsborough, England and despatched to Brisbane, Queensland in August 1909 for Queensland Machinery Ltd.
It was sold to the New Zealand Land Co. at "Oakwood" station about 130km north of Charleville where it was in constant use providing motive power for the shearing shed untill 1972. That year is thought to be the last shearing in Queensland, if not Australia, by an old steam engine that had powered up to 36 stands and shore 80,000 sheep in a season.
